With a variety of props out there to enhance, intensify or modify your barre class, we'd like to share our top 3 favorites with you! Props can be used with almost any exercise but they each have a unique feel and set up to accompany them. Read below for an in-depth look at our top 3 favorites and why.
Ball
The 10” inch fit ball is the most versatile prop that we love. The ball can add intensity and support. It can be placed in between the thighs and ankles for greater inner thigh connection, behind the knees for added hamstring work, under the feet (in Bridge position or standing) to challenge balance, under the waist or behind the back to offer more support in an abdominals series, and in between the palms or under the supporting hand in Plank work to enhance the focus on the chest. We have over 20 different classes on Barre Now that use the ball uniquely in many different ways.
Loop Band
Another favorite of ours is the loop band. The loop band can go above the knees and ankles for outer thighs/abductors intensity, around the arches of the feet for added resistance during glutes and hamstrings work, or above the wrists/elbows to replace hand weights. It can also be used to aid in stretching. A wonderful thing about the loop band is it can be found in multiple resistances from light to extra heavy allowing you to create a new class each time. You’ll see several of our classes on Barre Now use either the heavy loop band or the light loop band in a variety of sections.
Light Weights
Last, but surely not least, light weights. We incorporate hand weights in the majority of our Barre Intensity classes in the Upper Body section. We love light hand weights because we can use them for an extended period of time and tap into the upper body muscles in a different way. Hand weights aren’t just for the hands, they can be placed behind the knee and used to enhance the intensity of glute work or in between the legs just above the knees in Chair. They can also be used during abdominal work by being placed in between the legs for leg lowers and lifts or in the hands to incorporate upper body work with core. We consider light weights to be 1-3lbs and heavy weights to be 4-5lbs.
