My name is Sarahbeth Rivers Howes and I became a Barre Certified instructor in 2020. I started my mind-body connection journey after kicking cancer's butt thanks to God and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Surviving a year long battle of cancer and chemotherapy, along with temporarily losing my ability to walk, made me grateful for every breath and move my body was able to make. As a reflection of gratitude, I began running, cycling, and eventually swimming. My career in triathlons was successful, but I couldn't carry them with me to medical school. After two years of medical school, and 20lb weight gain, I took some time off to reflect on why I started medicine and how I could better care for myself in the process. I became more mindful of what worked for me and my body. While I couldn't ride my bike two hours every day, I dove into spinning. Now I have my road bike attached to a trainer, so that when I'm happy or sad-- I ride-- no excuses. When my local gym needed more spin instructors, I jumped at the chance. Through teaching spin, I found an outlet where I can uplift and encourage people.I noticed barre classes helped me stay toned and keep my curves. Barre Intensity was my style of Barre because they were very knowledgeable about the mind muscle connection. As a future doctor, I felt empowered delivering the knowledge of the body to the gym floor. It's more than just good music and choreography, it's manipulating muscles to work for you in ways you need them too. I am honored to be apart of the Barre Intensity team.
